DIETERLEN CHILD BURIAL
Monroe Township, Clark County, Indiana

LuAnn Staley reported on 6/5/1999 that she had spotted a lone grave behind a residence on Dieterlen Road.  Upon investigation, she learned that David Dieterlen owns the property and, although the house looks for all the world like an old church or maybe a school house, he reports it has "always been a house".  (See photo above, left.)

On the north end of the house, about 10 feet from the building, is a small gravestone (see photo above, right).  It is perhaps the only grave here.  All the stone says is:

Infant son of
R. C. and M. E.
Dieterlen
(No dates)

According to the Clark County Health Department, this is probably a child of Robert C. and Mary Elizabeth Dieterlen, born circa 1880-1920.  However, the Health Department has no specific record of an infant death for this couple, just several birth records.
