The Republic Columbus, Indiana April 4, 1904 Monday Page 8 FUNERAL OF R. C. SPRINGER One of Largest Attended of Any Funeral Ever Held in Bartholomew County. The funeral of the late Rome C. Springer, which was held at the Christian church in Elizabethtown yesterday afternoon, was one of the largest attended funerals ever held in the county. The church was filled with friends of the deceased and in the church yard were any number of people who had also known and loved the man so suddenly taken away. Elder Harley Jackson, of Seymour, read the Scripture lesson and a biography of the deceased and Elder William Chapple, of this city, offered prayer. Elder H. H. Harmon, of the Tabernacle, preached the funeral sermon, which was full of comfort to those in distress. A quartet composed of M. O. Reeves, John I. Cobb, Joseph E. Irwin and Alex Foster sang several appropriate numbers. The Masonic order gave the closing ritualistic services after which the remains were taken to the Springer cemetery for burial. The Masons had charge of the ceremonies at the grave. A large number of Masons and friends from this city attended the funeral.
