The Republic Columbus, Indiana Saturday, December 21, 1901 Page 4 A HALF CENTURY IN BARTHOLOMEW ONE OF THE OLDEST RESIDENTS DIED IN THE COUNTRY FRIDAY. THE RESULT OF A FALL Mrs. Mary Sohn, Born in Germany, Coming to This Country in 1852 and Settling Here One Year Later. Mary Sohn, wife of Peter Sohn, Sr., of Union township, Bartholomew county, passed away at the family home at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. On the 17th of last November Mrs. Sohn received a paralytic stroke and fell to the floor while she was in her kitchen. Her aged husband was in the same room and he carried her to her bed where she spent most of her time since the accident. Infirmaties due to old age, coupled with her injury, which was a fractured hip, caused her death. Mary Boll was born in Birgenan, Hesse, Darmstadt, Germany, on June 30, 1821. She grew to womanhood at this place and in 1844 was married to Peter Sohn. In 1852 the couple came to America, settling in Chambersburg, Pa. A year later they came west to Indiana, taking up their residence in Union township. This has been their home ever since coming to this state. Mrs. Sohn was the mother of seven children, six of whom are living: Mrs. Henry Wriedt, of Macon, Mo., Mrs. Ben Suverkrup, of Union townpsip, Bartholomew county; Michael J. Sohn, of Indianapolis; Mrs. Fred W. Fehring, Mrs. Fred J. Meyer and A.P. Sohn, all of Columbus. Mrs. Sohn is also survived by her husband who is in his eighty-fourth year. Funeral services Sunday, from the late residence, at 1 o'clock and from the German Lutheran church of this city at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Trautman. Burial in Garland Brook cemetery. Mrs. Sohn was a member of the German Lutheran church, and during her residence of nearly a half century in this county she acquired numerous friends who greatly regret her death. She was a loving mother and wife.
