The Columbus Republican Columbus, Indiana Thursday, May 5, 1898 Page 5 Adam Showers Adam Showers was born May 21, 1829, and died April 26, 1898, aged sixty-eight years, eleven months and five days. The subject of this obituary was born in Hamilton county, Ohio. When about eight years old he with the parents came to Indiana. In 1851 he made his home in Old St. Louis, this county, where he became acquainted with Susanna M. Holland and was married to her in January, 1852. In the fall of 1861 he enlisted in Co. F, 11th Ind. Volunteers from which he received an honorable discharge three years later and moved to Clifty township. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which he was an acceptable member for over fifty years. His last painful and protracted sickness was marked by christian patience and resignation, not a murmur escaping his lips. Two of his children preceded him to the better land. He leaves to mourn, a wife, three sons, a daughter, eleven grandchildren and a large circle of friends and comrades. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Lathrop, of Hipe, assisted by Revs. Allen and Bonnell, of Hartsville. Services at the residence of the deceased, interment at Hope. At the grave comrades of both the Hope and Hartsville post gathered about while Rev. J.W. Allen spoke some extremely well chosen words befitting the close of a soldier's life.
