The Republic Columbus, Indiana January 14, 1904 Thursday Page 2 DEATH OF OLD RESIDENT Benjamin Schooler Passed Away After Long Illness Wednesday Afternoon. Benjamin Schooler died at the city hospital Wednesday, January 6, about 4:30 o'clock after a lingering illness. An operation was performed Monday in the hope of saving his life but to no avail. The funeral will be held from the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, services conducted by Rev. Charles Gorman Richards. Burial will be in Garland Brook cemetery. Mr Schooler was born in Harrison county, Kentucky, December 19, 1823. At the age of ten he came to this county with his parents and settled in German township. In 1845 he was married to Miss Mary Hughes, who lived near Bedford, and they moved to a farm near Taylorsville. Later they moved to Wayne township and after that to this city where they have since lived. Mrs. Schooler survives her husband. The children are Dr. Louis Schooler, of Des Moines; Mrs. Esther Wills, of Cincinnati; Mansel Schooler, who lives in Arkansas; Charles Schooler, of Illinois; Newton Schooler, of Brookstown; William Schooler, Geo. Schooler and Miss Addie Schooler, of this city. Mr. Schooler was a life long republican and a well known man both in this city and county.
