MRS.
PATTERSON TAKEN BY DEATH
Widow of
Civil War Veteran Dies in
East Columbus.
Mrs. Eliza Barton Patterson,
82 years old, widow of Matthew Patterson, a civil war veteran who passed
away in June, died this morning at 9 o'clock at her home on Jones
street, East Columbus, following a short illness of a cancerous growth.
Funeral
services will be held
Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the home. Burial will be in
City cemetery. In compliance with the wish of the deceased woman, it is
asked that flowers be omitted.
Mrs.
Patterson was born in this county in the Dark Corner
neighborhood, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Youman Barton. June
14, 1969 she was married to Mr. Patterson and they spent the greater
part of their lives here. Mrs.
Patterson was a member of the Methodist church, having affiliated
with the church at
Burnsville many years ago. She was good woman always ready to
help others and she was most highly esteemed by those who knew her.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Luther Yates, Mrs. Garnett Jewell,
and Mrs. Kenneth Jackson, all of this county, 20 grandchildren and 6
great grandchildren
