Mrs. James Cummings, 73, Mother of Marguerite Lewellen, Is Dead


   Mrs. Mary M. Cummings, 73, wife of James Cummings, died suddenly at 6:30 o'clock Sunday morning at her home one mile north and one-four mile east of Monroe.  Death was caused by a heart attack.  Mrs. Cummings, however, had been in failing health for more than one year.  She was widely known and had had lived in Monroe and community for 57 years.

   The deceased was born in Randolph county, Indiana, on July 4, 1868, a daughter of Jethro and Anna Macy.  She was married to Z. O. Lewellen in 1888.  He died in 1930 and in April of 1939 Mrs. Lewellen married James Cummings.

   Surviving are the husband, a daughter Marguerite Lewellen of Monroe, a step-son, F. O. Lewellen of Muncie, a step-daughter, Mrs. Floyd Grandstaff, of Decatur;  a brother, E. D. Macy, of Decatur and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Shearer of Warren.  One son is deceased.

   Mrs. Cummings was a member of the Monroe M. E. church.  The funeral will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at the home and at 2:00 at the church, Rev. Hart officiating.  Burial will be in the (cut off)
